The Sandero Stepway is Dacia's raised crossover variant of the Sandero hatchback, lifted 17 cm at the front and 15 cm at the rear relative to standard, with black plastic cladding and a modest 185 mm ground clearance. The 1.0 TCe 90 hp three-cylinder petrol with a six-speed manual is the predominant Montenegrin rental spec. Do not confuse refinement with cost: the Stepway's cabin is straightforward and unadorned, but the structure underneath is robust, the ride is well-sorted for the clearance on offer, and the TCe engine has proved reliable across a high-volume rental cycle. It is the budget entry to raised-ride driving in Montenegro.

The Stepway's clearance and raised seating address the routes that deter Kotor renters in standard hatches. The back-road approach to Gornja Lastva above Tivat, the potholed spur to the Pestingrad fortress overlook, and the final unsealed section to the Risan Roman mosaics are all within the Stepway's comfort zone. On the main bay road the higher ride height returns a better forward view over stone parapets and parked tour buses; the Kotor–Cetinje hairpins in second and third are managed with the TCe pulling steadily from 1,500 rpm. Pick the Sandero Stepway when budget is the primary variable and you want the raised ride and seating of a light crossover without paying the premium of a Stonic or 2008. Skip it if in-cabin refinement on long motorway legs or a boot larger than 328 litres are non-negotiable for your trip.
